Our body has some odd ways of telling us when things are up. For example, have you ever noticed yourself twitching right before falling asleep? Well, this is what it means.

You have finally gotten to that comfy spot in the bed, the blankets are just right, as are the pillows, and you’re just about to drift off. All so softly until your body twitches and scares the piss out of you, ruins your sleep, and drives your partner crazy. Does this sound familiar? Well, this is what it means.
Scientists have called this phenomenon the hypnic twitch. While it has been described differently by many people, common descriptions include the feeling of falling. If you experience this phenomenon it is recommended that you do not consume any caffeine before bed.
It is also a common side effect of drugs like Ritalin and Adderall. It is most common in people that are extremely exhausted and finally make it to bed. It’s when you fall asleep too fast and your brain can’t keep up with the phases of sleep.
When your brain gets confused it essentially restarts, and jolts you awake with a burst of chemicals. It isn’t particularly bad for you, but it definitely isn’t fun to experience.
